I first read this statement while reading this awesome post over at copyblogger a while back.
The article spurred me into action and I thought that I “got” the part about the secret sauce being you at the time. You know, be your authentic self, find your voice, roll your own way – and there is no denying this is powerful advice – and not always as easy to do as it is to say.
But the other day I was going through the same old thing that I do: asking myself over and over and over again:
- “Why am I not as successful as I want to be?
- What is getting in my way?
- What is the secret?
- What’s the one thing that I keep missing?
- What do I need to do or think about that would make all the difference?”
- What IS the secret?”
And then, standing in the shower, God spoke* and said
“It’s You – the secret sauce is YOU.”
And suddenly I just saw it.
I just totally knew what he meant: the secret sauce is ME.
The key to success is ME.
The thing that I need to focus on in order to be as great as I want to be is ME. The thing that gets in the way is ME. The thing I keep doing wrong is ME. The buck stops with ME. In short – success: failure, happy:sad, clever:stupid, useless:brilliant – it’s always and only about ME.
That’s both a simple and a complicated concept to grasp. And when you grasp it, it’s both liberating and extremely challenging, because it means taking responsibility for your own life in totality.
Nothing is stopping you AT ALL – except YOU. YOU are the secret sauce. The sooner you get jiggy with that, the sooner you will be free.
*God speaks to me a lot. You might call it your higher voice, or even just a moment of clarity, it doesn’t matter, to me it is a voice that speaks to me and I know it is always speaks the truth, it never puts me down, it always knows what to do but it gets buried in the noise of your own and this world’s bullshit so you have to quiet down and listen up to hear it.
